DUI Ignition Interlock Requirement for All California Counties

Posted by Amy Morell | Sep 29, 2016

Governor Brown Signs Bill Requiring Ignition Interlock Devices for DUI offenders in all California Counties

Since 2010 only 4 counties have required first time DUI offenders to install the devices:  Alameda, Tulare, Sacramento and Los Angeles.  As of January 1, 2019 all California Counties will require first time DUI offenders to install the device on any car they own or operate.  The DMV will be in charge of enforcement.

An earlier report issued by the DMV found ignition interlock devices were not a deterrence.
